New York, NY, January 20, 2023 — Steven B. Zelin, CPA, Managing Member of Zelin & Associates CPA LLC in New York City and The Singing CPA®, advises taxpayers that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will start accepting tax returns for the 2022 tax season on Monday, January 23, 2023. The deadline for filing is Tuesday, April 18, 2023.  “This deadline, instead of April 15, was changed because of the weekend and the District of Columbia’s Emancipation Day holiday, which falls on Monday, April 18,” said Mr. Zelin.

Mr. Zelin added filing electronically with direct deposit information is important. He stressed individuals can speed tax filing by having all necessary records available, such as W-2s, 1099s, receipts, canceled checks and other documents that support an item of income, or a deduction or credit.

He cautioned taxpayers about responding to phone calls or automated messages from someone who claims to be from the IRS. “The IRS will not call you by telephone or send an email requesting money,” he said.
