New York, NY, December 28, 2021 — Steven B. Zelin, CPA, Managing Member at Zelin & Associates CPA, a full-service accounting and auditing firm based in New York City, has been named to the Board of Governors of the Accountants Club of America, a group of professional men and women in state and national societies fostering high standards of integrity and competency in financial accountancy.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr. Zelin said, “During my profession, I have always admired the members of the Accountants Club for their contributions to the profession.  I am honored to be among them and to serve on their Board.”

Mr. Zelin became a licensed CPA in 2000. In his role as Managing Member of a CPA firm, he supervises managers, senior accountants, junior accountants and bookkeepers to ensure the highest quality of client service. He also oversees the preparation of income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S Corps, C Corps, as well as payroll and sales tax returns. His firm has a total of 20 professional staff with expanded service capabilities in auditing and tax services.

Mr. Zelin also leads the firm’s Audit Practice and serves as Peer Review Team Captain in concentrating on small to mid-sized firm peer reviews for CPA firms. He is a member of the Governmental Audit Quality Center.

He is an active member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants and serves as Chair of its CPA Careers Committee. In this role, he speaks regularly before high school students to promote the CPA profession.  He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and its Peer Review Committee.

Mr. Zelin has educated the public about the accounting profession through his role as The Singing CPA, a registered trademark.  His sense of humor added to his songs, Tax Deductible, Dear IRS, If You Don’t Like Paying Taxes, Audit Client Blues and others featured on his CD, The Singing CPA introduced in 2008.  He regularly sings on the steps of the post office on the income tax filing deadline and before many non-profit and small business groups.

He has presented workshops for Urban Stages, an award-winning, not-for-profit, Off-Broadway Theatre Company founded in 1984 and now reaching thousands of New Yorkers every year in over 100 New York City neighborhoods.  These presentations feature songs from his Magical Boxes CD which was produced in 2006.  This CD presents original and customized songs for children that he presents before non-profit organizations including libraries, schools, camps and corporate events for children.

Mr. Zelin has also produced other accounting related CDs including No Accounting for the Holidays, a collection of popular holiday songs updated with accounting lore and lyrics including Most Deductible Time of the Year, We Wish You a Great Big Refund, Joy to the World (the Clients Paid) and others.  His first CD, Just Take a Sick Day highlighted his experiences growing up in Brooklyn through songs, The Island of Manhattan Blues, Free Furniture Day, Missed Opportunities and others.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Zelin was an Associate in the Internal Audit Department at the Societe Generale; an Analyst in the Structured Finance Department, at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. and an Associate in the Audit and Business Advisory Services Department at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

He has been an Adjunct Professor of Accounting at Long Island University and Baruch College.

Mr. Zelin has a MBA in Finance and Marketing from Fordham University and a B.S. in Accountancy from Alfred University.  He studied guitar, piano and voice while attending Alfred University.
